Julianne Rolf, Environmental Engineering
University of California: Riverside
2015 Goldwater Scholar
Julianne Rolf is majoring in Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Riverside. During her undergraduate career she has studied electrically-conductive membranes in Dr. David Jassby’s lab in the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering. In the summer of 2014 she interned with Professor David Sedlak at UC Berkeley as part of the NSF Research Center that focuses on Re-inventing the Nation’s Urban Water Infrastructure. In the summer 2015 Ms. Rolf interned at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center working on a Regenerative Stormwater Conveyance System to improve water quality in the Chesapeake Bay.
In addition to research, Julianne served as Editor-in-Chief of the UCR Undergraduate Research Journal in 2015. In 2015/2016 Julianne was awarded the Chancellor’s Research Fellowship, a prestigious Riverside fellowship that is awarded on a competitive bases to 13 top undergraduate researchers each year. Besides being an outstanding student, Julianne is active in a number of student professional organizations.
Julianne graduates from UC – Riverside in 2016 and plans to conduct research at the Leibniz-Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Germany studying filamentous cyanobacteria and calcite precipitation in hard-water lakes, this opportunity is made possible by the 2016/2017 Fulbright Research Award. She was also awarded an NSF GFP award and plans to pursue a Ph.D. in Chemical and Environmental Engineering at Yale University upon completion of her Fulbright award.
