Goldwater nominations begin in someone’s lab. Faculty mentors bring sophomores and juniors into real research, then vouch for them in the letters that carry an application. This page gathers the mentors the Foundation has recognized — the recipients of the national award described below, and others whose contribution to Goldwater Scholars the Foundation has chosen to mark. Since 2014 the Foundation and the Council on Undergraduate Research (CUR) have given the CUR–Goldwater Scholars Faculty Mentor Award to one faculty member a year for exceptional mentorship of undergraduate researchers; the recipient’s institution receives $5,000 to support their research program and students.
