Higher-education leader with more than 25 years at institutions including UNC Chapel Hill, where he directed federal TRiO programs. His career has centered on preparing first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students for graduate education.
Joseph M. Green, Ph.D., is an educational access and success consultant, leader, and grant writer whose 25-year career in higher education has centered on preparing first-generation, low-income, and underrepresented students for post-secondary education and graduate study.
Dr. Green has held positions at UNC Greensboro, Marquette University, UNC Chapel Hill, the University of Central Florida, and North Carolina A&T State University. He has directed four federal TRiO programs, served as director of the Office of Federal TRiO Programs at UNC Chapel Hill, and taught in the School of Education’s Culture, Curriculum and Change program. Over his career he has managed teams of faculty, administrators, and graduate students and secured more than $28 million in grants and special projects.
His scholarly interests address mentorship, student success, development, and leadership. He has served on the Chapel Hill–Carrboro City Schools Board of Education and on North Carolina’s Department of Public Instruction Advanced Placement Advisory Council, and is the author of “Your Past and the Press,” an examination of the media’s role in presidential appointments.
Dr. Green completed graduate work at the University of South Dakota and earned his doctorate in political science and public administration from Howard University.
