John H. Yopp

Chair of the Board

Biologist (B.S., Georgetown; Ph.D., University of Louisville) and longtime leader in international higher education. Presidential appointee; former board member of the Council on International Educational Exchange; recognized by AACRAO, IIE, and EAIE for innovation in international education.

John H. Yopp was appointed to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees by President Obama and confirmed by the United States Senate. He previously served on the Board of Directors and Board of Trustees of the Council on International Educational Exchange from 2004 to 2016.

A longtime voice in international higher education, Yopp has been a frequent presenter for the European Association for International Education (EAIE), NAFSA workshops, conferences of the U.S.–European Fulbright Commissions, AACRAO, the Council of Graduate Schools, and the Association of International Education Administrators — with particular focus on the Bologna Process and Tuning.

His honors include AACRAO’s Outstanding International Educator award (2009); the Institute of International Education’s Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education (2012), recognizing the Discover Germany–Discover USA Minority Exchange Program he helped create with the U.S.–German Fulbright Commission; and the EAIE’s Transatlantic Leadership Award (2012).

Yopp holds degrees in biology from Georgetown University (B.S.) and the University of Louisville (Ph.D.).
